As at Saturday September 29, 2018, Nigeria’s two major parties, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which held their governorship primary elections, elected their governorship candidates for the 2019 general election.
On the side of the APC, it however was a different stories in Lagos, Ogun and Adamawa states which had their governorship primaries postponed till Sunday and again some till Monday and beyond.
Former Deputy Governor, Senator Sefiu Adegbenga Kaka, contested in the Ogun State APC governorship primaries expectedly held on Monday which was the date the election was eventually shifted to.
The election was however still shifted from Monday to Tuesday in Lagos where Babajide Sanwo-Olu purportedly clinched the APC votes far on the lead against the incumbent. It is not clear however whether the outcome of meeting President Muhammadu Buhari was said to be holding with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Akinwumi Ambode would have any means of upturning what the registered APC members expressed in Tuesday voting across the state which clearly took Ambode out of the favour for flagbearership of the ruling Party in the state ahead of the 2019 election.
In the meantime, Dr. Muhammed Bello Mutawalle has emerged Governorship Candidate of the PDP in Zamfara State while the incumbent Governor Ifeanyi Okonwa clinched the ticket for second term on PDP platform in Delta State.
