Mr. Kunle Akogun, Director of Public Affairs, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, has congratulated the Assistant Director News, Voice of Nigeria (VoN), Dr. Qasim Akinreti, who was on Friday declared winner of the chairmanship election of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council.

Akogun, who was reacting to a report in The DEFENDER to the effect of the election success, described the victory as a call to service and prayed for God’s guidance for the successful tenure of the senior broadcasting journalist.

“Congratulations, Dr. Akinreti, on this landmark victory! Really, this is a call to service. May Almighty God guide, guard and direct you,” Akogun said.

In the meantime, management of The DEFENDER, announced in Lagos on Saturday the appointment of Muhammad A. Yahusa, as Sokoto State Correspondent of the young but fast growing online newspaper.

“Yahusa, experienced broadcasting and print journalist, will henceforth cover day-to-day government, sultanate and metropolitan events in the seat caliphate and its environs on behalf of the media outfit, while other special businesses of the organisation in Sokoto State will continue to be decided by the management,” said Hajia Basirat Olsunkanmi Shittu, who is Manager Administration of Dream Concept, publishers of The DEFENDER.
