Akure Kingdom honours The DEFENDER publisher, Bashir Adefaka, others Saturday

The saying that a prophet is not recognised in his own country may have changed with honour being done to a Lagos based media practitioner and publisher of The DEFENDER, Alhaji Bashir Adefaka, in his country home of Akure this weekend.

The award of honour, which will also go to other doing-well sons and daughters of the kingdom including the Deen of Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan, Prof. Abiodun Ayodele,, is said to be at the instance of the young but versatile journalist’s “meritorious role” in ensuring successes of the just concluded Ulefunta Festival 2019.

The Akure, Ondo State-born Journalist, Bashir Adefaka, was Secretary, Lecture Committee of the month-long annual event that saw to the much cherished first-of-its-kind visit of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, to Ondo State to the honour of Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi Odundun II during his two-day working visit of Sunday 8 – Monday 9 September 2019.

Receiving the Sultan in a courtesy visit, Governor of Ondo State Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, described his visit as a handshake across the Niger, most appreciated, particularly visiting and sleeping for the first time in tbe Sunshine State as Chief Guest Speaker at the Akure’s specially organised Ulefunta Annual Public Lecture 2019.

In communicating the message of the honour to the Isolo Akure Prince, Chairman Central Planning Committee of the Ulefunta Festival, Prince Adebisi Adeniyi, said: “We will be having our appreciation Party tommorrow at the Deji’s Palace by 3pm, you’re one of those to be honoured by Deji for your meritorious performance during Ulefunta 2019 Festival,” he said.

Speaking further, the chairman said, “This is our tradition every year to feed and appreciate individual outstanding perfomance to the service of our Oyemekun Kingdom. You’re wonderful and I am proud of you.”
