AMVCA2018: Ali Nuhu wins best indigenous language movie award

The king of Kannywood, Ali Nuhu Mohammed, has won the Best Indigenous Language in a Movie/TV Series (Hausa) at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 2018.

His movie ‘Mansoor’ won the award.

Ali Nuhu, a Nigerian film actor, producer, director, dancer and script writer, also acts in both Hausa and English movies.

Born on Friday March 15, 1974 in Maiduguri, Borno State to Alhaji Nuhu Poloma, who hailed from Balanga town of Gombe State and Fatima Karderam Digema, who hailed from Bama village of Borno State, both in North Eastern Nigeria, Boy Ali Nuhu Mohammed grew up in Kano, Kano State, North West Nigeria.

After his secondary education, he received a Bachelors of Art degree in Geography from the University of Jos following which he proceeded for his National Service in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

He later attended the University of Southern California for a course in film production and cinematic arts.

Popularly called Ali Nuhu, the film actor, producer, director, dancer and script writer acts in both Hausa and English movies and is often referred as the “King of Kannywood” by the media.  Kannywood is the Hausa film industry headquartered in Kano, Nigeria. Ali Nuhu is the most followed male celebrity in the Kannywood industry.

Ali Nuhu entered the Hausa film industry in 1999 as an actor and appeared in over 260 Hausa movies and 150 English movies. He participated in a film training program at the Asian School of Media Studies in Noida, New Delhi, India.
