Armed robbery suspect shot dead in Ogun

A member of an armed robbery syndicate was in the early hour of Tuesday September 4 shot dead by men of Ogun State Police Command along Shagamu/Ore Expressroad.

Making this disclosure in a statement, copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER on Wednesday, was the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi.

According to Oyeyemi, the robber was shot dead during a gun battle between his gang and policemen attached to Odogbolu Divisional headquarters following response by the security agents to a distress call received by the DPO Odogbolu Division SP Simire Hilary that some hoodlums had blocked the expressway in an attempt to disposes people of their belongings.

“On receiving the information, the DPO led his Anti-Robbery team to the scene where they met the robbers attacking a truck driver, on sighting the Police; the hoodlums opened fire on the Policemen while the Policemen too retaliated.

“At the end of the encounter, one of the hoodlums was shot dead while other members of the gang escaped into the bush with bullet wounds. The truck driver one Micheal Okechuckwu was rescued unhurt,” Oyeyemi said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP Ahmed Iliyasu, who expressed satisfaction on the gallantry performance of his men, had ordered that the remaining members of the gang be hunted and brought to book.

He equally appealed to hospital as well as traditional healers to notify the police if anybody is seen with bullet injury in their area.
