Dr Chris Aniamaka, pastor in charge of Dominion City Church, Kpiri-kpiri in Abakaliki has admonished Christians to participate in the forthcoming general election to elect credible leaders for the country.
Aniamaka gave the advise to the congregation on Sunday in Abakaliki at a church service saying that the Feb. 16 and March 2 general elections would be peaceful.
According to him, it is a civic responsibility of every citizen of Nigeria to participate in electing new leaders for the country.
NAN reports that the clergy also cautioned against apathy by Christians in the election.
He urged members of the church who were yet to collect their Permanent Voters’Cards (PVCs) to use the period of the extension given by the electoral body to go and get theirs.
“It is the duty of the electorate to vote while it remains the duty of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials to count results and make sure that the results stand.
“Don’t sit down at home and say that your votes will not count; go and exercise your civic duty by voting and allow INEC to do its duty of ensuring that the results are counted.
“Don’t sit down in your homes on the day of election to pray or go to the mountains to pray on election day, this is the time you have to pray for success of the election and not in the day of election.
“It is the duty of Christians to participate in choosing credible and righteous leaders who will bring down the will of God upon the nation,’’ Aniamaka said.
The pastor expressed confidence that the election would be free, fair, transparent and credible.
He added that the country would come out stronger, better and more united after the election, stressing that only qualified candidates would emerge as winners in the election.
“God will disappoint election doomsday prophets because the country will have a very credible election and our nation will come out much better and united,’’ he said.
