A Mararaba Senior Magistrate’s Court in Nasarawa State, on Monday, sentenced three men, Mohammed Shu’aibu, Abubakar Dantani and Mustapha Yaro, to 17 months imprisonment each for robbery.

The magistrate, Mairiga Abdullahi, however, gave the convicts an option of N7, 000 fine each and warned them to desist from committing crime.

He also ordered each of them to pay the complainant N42, 250 as compensation or get additional three months imprisonment each.

The defendants of no fixed addresses were facing a five-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, impersonation and extortion.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Jacob John, had told the court that one Francis Lamebri of Behind Innovative Secondary School, New Karu, Nasarawa State, reported the matter at the ‘A’ Division Police Station, Mararaba on March 23.

“The complainant said on the same date, the three accused persons, dressed in army uniform, trespassed into his room, beat him up and stole his property.

“Some of the stolen items are a HP laptop, valued at N70, 000 and N10, 000 cash.

“Others are, Tecno M3 and X2, power bank, which values are yet unknown, until they were traced and arrested and the HP laptop recovered,” John said.

John said that the offences contravened sections 97 and 348, 133, 265 and 292 of the Penal Code.

The three convicts had pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.
