Saturday August 24, 2019 will not be wished away in a hurry being the day twin events happened to the Sokoto Caliphate courtesy of the main figure of the empire. One merely noted and the other glamorously marked and celebrated.

It was the day the Sultan of Sokoto, Chairman of Nigeria’s National Traditional Rulers Council (NTRC) and Amirul Mu’mineen of Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, gave the hand of his beloved, pretty daughter, Fatimah, out in marriage to the family of Isa Yuguda, former Governor of Bauchi State, who were in the Seat of Caliphate to take her for their son, Mahmood.

As if predesigned, the day also marked, although unmentioned, the 63rd birthday of the Sultan.

The wedding fathia in session.

It was a day that Nigeria appeared to have patiently waited for to do unto the Sariki Musulumi of Nigeria, a big honour in appreciation of his unmatched contributions to the peace, unity and development of the most populous of Black Race, as the entire country practically relocated to Sokoto State in about 17 aircrafts which landed at Sultan Abubakar International Airport Sokoto and discharged creme de la creme of the society who joined in adding colours to the natural glamours and glitters of the epoch event.

Dignitaries at the ceremony

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha and Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, were among dignitaries that attended the wedding ceremony of Fatima Sa’ad Abubakar, daughter of Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan’s daughter married to Mahmood Yuguda on a moderate bride price of N50,000 witnessed as paid.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who was already getting set to jet out to Japan on TICAD7 conference, was represented at the Sultan of Sokoto’s daughter’s marriage by a high-powered delegation led by SGF Boss Mustapha and Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, at the occasion held at Sultan Bello Mosque, Sokoto on the said day.

The marriage was solemnised according to Islamic rites led by Chief Imam of Sultan Bello Mosque, Malami Akwara, while prayers were offered by Chief Justice of the Federation (CJN) Honourable Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, and Chief Imam, National Mosque, Sheikh Shehu Galadanchi, among others.

The bride was represented by Emir of Gwandu, who by ancestral history is brother to the Sultan, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar. Emir of Gwandu is considered to be younger brother to the Sultan of Sokoto being that Abdullahi, who left Sokoto to become Emir in Gwandu Emirate was younger brother to Sheikh Uthman Dan Fodio, the first leader of reformed Sokoto caliphate and on whose throne the sitting Sultan currently sits.

The groom, on the other side, was represented by the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwan Adamu, during the solemnisation rite.

Among the prominent personalities that attended the wedding were richest black man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and another popular business mogul, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal.
