Just on Monday 4 February, 2019 some of the Obasa’s boys attacked us with machetes and broken bottles.  As a result of this, some of us sustained deep cut on the of their bellies, thighs and heads, simply because they were playing a song composed for the campaign of Honourable Abdulkareem Jubril.

Thugs said to be working for the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashir Obasa, are in the news again as they are fingered in Monday night of 4 February 2019 attack that left members of Accord Party (AP) in Agege Constituency 01 in the state seriously injured, hospitalized.

The DEFENDER in recent times had reported cases of threats and attacks by same thugs for which  the Speaker had been severally accused directly by Hon. Abdulkareem Jubril, Accord Party’s Candidate for Lagos State House of Assembly in the March 2 election.

Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Musbau Rasak, when contacted on those occasions, denied saying his boss had no reason to sponsor thugs to foment violence before, during or after election, which Jubril and his supporters debunked.

The situation, the AP supporters said, was now getting worse as they were beginning to feel insecure to partake in the March 2 election except the Lagos State Commissioner of Police assures them of safety of their lives, in the absence of which, they said, they will believe the elections, particularly into the state House of Assembly in the Agege Constituency 01, will be incredible.

Speaking in Lagos on Wednesday, Hon. Jubril and some of his wounded supporters said the sitting Chairman, Agege Local Government Area in the state, Hon. Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi, is taking part in the persecution that they are facing as “obviously the leading, if not only effective,” opposition to the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the constituency, Rt. Hon. Mudashir Obasa for which reason, they said they were being persecuted.

The LGA Chairman, Egunjobi, we were told, recently visited the Agege Main Market and threatened market men and women therein that he would shutdown the market if any poster of Accord Party (AP) Agege Constituency 01 Lagos State House of Assembly Candidate, Honourable Abdulkareem Jubril, was allowed to be pasted in the market.

The Accord Party’s candidate, Jubril, who is former Chairman of the Local Government, said he had continued to maintain restraint refusing to be provoked.

He however expressed worries that security officers in the two police stations in the constituency, Alabo, Dopemu and Isokoko near the Agege Main Market appeared to be giving the Speaker’s thugs support as they failed to effect arrest each time they made report except that the police officers there beg them (complainants) to forget.

The candidate, as at the time of filing this report, had vowed to visit the Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Police, personally, to report activities of the Speaker, his supporters and the unwillingness of police officers in Alabo and Isokoko police stations directly to the Commissioner of Police.

Jubril, it was learned, was about to meet CP Imohimi Edgal having hinted him on phone about the incidents when the nationwide CPs redeployment came.

The Accord Party supporters said the sitting Agege LGA chairman, Egunjobi, was carrying out all the threats publicly claiming it is either Mudashir Obasa or nobody.

Asked why they thought police gave their attackers support, one of them who sought not to be mentioned said: “These people have been attacking and provoking us to the extent that they come to our various homes and threatened to kill us if we do not remove JUBI (as AP’s candidate is fondly called) posters from frontage.  Police are working with these Obasa’s boys because each time we report any attack on us or forceful removal of Jubril, our candidate’s posters, to them, they only beg us without effecting arrest.

“Just on Monday 4 February, 2019 some of the Obasa’s boys attacked us with machetes and broken bottles.  As a result of this, some of us sustained deep cut on the of their bellies, thighs and heads, simply because they were playing a song composed for the campaign of Honourable Abdulkareem Jubril.

“Wife of Tunde ‘Disco’, Agege Local Government Chairman of APC, was also caught removing our candidate’s posters and we reported her at Alabo Police Station.  No effort was made until elders in the community including our candidate, Honourable Jubril himself, asked us to withdraw the case from the police station.  The record is there.

“All of these attacks I cannot say whether they have the consent of the Speaker, Mudashir Obasa, or not, but I can confirm to you that the Speaker is in control of political thugs in this Agege Constituency 01 and who are headed by Ibrahim a.k.a. Sky, supported by other thugs namely Ehis as he is popularly called in the area and Jegbe.  Where Jegbe is elder brother, Ehis is younger brother and these three are core Obasa’s thugs terrorizing opposition just because of popularity of our candidate, Honourable Jubril Abdulkareem.

“The thugs are more in Ward B and D comprising Papa Asafa, Union Road, and so on.  They have even threatened us so much that, apart from Local Government Chairman, Egunjobi, using the power of government to pounce on us, they claim they are going to wear police uniforms on themselves at elections and so that there will be nobody to do anything to stop them.  He said they are the ones in power,” he said.
