Human development index in Nigeria is to receive a boost with the Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS)  under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Presidency has said.

Under the initiative, six local government areas in Sokoto are to benefit from projects worth N1.2 billion in education, healthcare services, water supply and agriculture sectors.

Speaking at the flag-off of distribution of materials, drugs and motorcycle under SDG/CGS local government track project in Sokoto, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, said the programme was introduced to improve human development index in Nigeria.

The SSA, who was represented by Adesegun Ogunleye, added that it was to give states and local governments financial and technical support to ensure achievement of the set goals.

She lauded Sokoto State government’s efforts on education, health care and community development.

In his remarks, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said the projects would be jointly financed by the Federal, state and local governments in the ratio 50:30:20 respectively.
