The Second Ife Summer Institute’s programme kicks off with a keynote address and opening ceremony at 9 am on July 23, 2018 at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

The venue for the opening ceremony and keynote address is the Ajose Lecture Theatre located near the university’s Faculty of Agriculture.

The expected Guest Speaker is Prof. Wale Adebanwi of the Institute of African Studies, Oxford University, U.K. who will be speaking on ‘The Social Life of a Scholarly Publication: From Conception to Execution.’

According to the Convener of the Ife Summer Institute, Prof. Jacob K. Olupona of Harvard University, U.S.A., the goal of the summer institute programme is to facilitate and foster innovative research of young scholars in the academy, particularly those in the humanities and social sciences, by exposing them to relevant theoretical and methodical tools in their respective disciplines.

The institute’s summer programme will be anchored by an impressive number of senior scholars from Nigeria and abroad engaging a wide range of themes and issues that are designed to deepen the understanding of research and teaching mission in the academy during which about 30 scholars are expected to participate from the U.S., Germany and several African countries, including Nigeria.

The summer programme is a two-week residential programme with the theme: “The Knowledge Society and the Challenges of Doing Research in Africa:Theoretical Perspectives and Methodological Approaches. It is expected to run from July 23 – August 3, 2018.”

Also expected in attendance at the opening ceremony is the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, academics from Nigeria and overseas, Royal Fathers and a Minister of the Federal Republic.

The General Public is also welcome at the event.
