PDP National Leader Senator Bukola Saraki has officially endorsed APC’s President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term bid, directing his supporters in Kwara State to vote massively for the president.

“Over 90 percent of our votes should go to President Buhari,” Saraki said at a rally in Ilorin, in what has raised eyebrows in the camp of the PDP where he’s the national leader and campaign Director General of Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate.

Saraki’s endorsement of Buhari was seen in the video of the rally now trending on the social media.

Saraki’s supporters have been polarised over the potentially damaging endorsed. While some said it was a Freudian slip as his supporters were heard saying ‘vote for Atiku’ in the video , one of his aides said the senate chief did not make any such mistake.

Saraki’s endorsement has sent conspiracy theorists into a frenzy, with many saying Saraki’s comment may reflect his frustrations with the PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar with whom he had been having subtle disagreements over funding of the opposition’s campaign.

It is claimed that Saraki’s open endorsement of Buhari, who had criticised Buhari as incompetent, may well be a subtle reconsideration of his hostility towards the president who many pollsters have tipped to win the crucial ballots on Saturday.

But some have said Saraki’s gaffe may well reflect some health issues such as mid-age dementia — a condition whose symptoms include memory loss and hallucination.

“If he actually wanted to mention Atiku and he mentioned Buhari, then he may be dealing with a bigger problem that is not known to the public yet,” according to a source.

“But we were all alarmed when he said that at the campaign in Ilorin on Thursday. He was later corrected but his countenance didn’t change much. Some have said he may in fact be saying what his supporters don’t know yet. In that case, we may be dealing with another 1983 scenario when his late father also suddenly dumped the candidate he was campaigning for and directed his supporters to vote for the candidate of the UPN.”

Earlier at the same rally, Saraki had also exhibited his trademark selfishness when he said Kwara State will benefit from an Atiku presidency because the PDP has made him (Saraki) their leader, campaign DG while also promising to give him the senate president’s slot.

“This raises the issue of whether he embodies Kwara. He talked as if Kwara has benefited once he has benefitted,” Alarape Toyin, an Ilorin indigene, said.
