Jibril Oyekan-led new Unilorin Council inaugurated, meets next week

The newly reconstituted Governing Council of the University of Ilorin will hold its inaugural meeting between May 22 and 26 at the University campus.

This was disclosed in Abuja last Tuesday by its new Chairman and Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Abdullah Jibril Oyekan, a Member of the Federal Republic, shortly after the inauguration of the Governing Council alongside those of 22 other Federal Universities by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu.

Other members of the new Council are Dr. Samuel Adedayo, Chief Ogban Ebock, Dr. Muhammad Bashir Mustafa and Engr. Issah Bello.

The internal members of the Council are the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON); the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. N. Y. S. Ijaiya; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. A. Y. Abdulkareem; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (RTI), Prof. G. A. Olatunji; the University Registrar, who doubles as the Secretary of the Council, Mr. Emmanuel Dada Obafemi; Prof. J. K. Joseph, Prof. A. Sani, Prof. A. S. Abdussalam, Prof. A. A. Adeoye, Prof. A. B. O. Omotoso, Prof. S. O. Salami, and Prof. W. O. Egbewole.

Also on the Governing Council is a representative of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Odejinmi Adebayo Olusanjo .

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), has congratulated the Chairman and other members of the newly inaugurated Governing Council, describing their appointments as well-merited.

Prof. Ambali, who stated this during the post-inauguration get-together in Abuja last Tuesday, said that the new Council “is rich in intellect”.

The Vice-Chancellor said, “I am happy that we have this crop of people on the Council and I am sure that these people are well-equipped to move the University of Ilorin forward.”

A retired Director of Petroleum Resources, Dr. Oyekan is bringing to his new assignment over 30 years of meritorious public service. The consummate technocrat holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Imperial College of the University of London.
