Former Chairman, Editorial Board of Vanguard Newspapers, Alhaji Kola Animasaun, is dead.

The late author of Voice of Reason an”Nineteen Thirty Nine” passed on after Fajr (early morning prayer) on Thursday Ramadan 25, 1440 equivalent of May 30, 2019 in Lagos after old age related brief illness.

He will be buried 2pm Thursday (today).

His eldest son, Mr. Ajibola Animasau and godson, Prince Bashir Adefaka, announced the death in separate but coordinated messages Thursday morning with hint of details later.

Animasaun said: “Dear Friend, My father (Kola Muslim Animasaun) passed on early this morning. He will be buried today and I’ll convey details of the burial time to you once confirmed. Kindly join us at the funeral if you are able to. May we outlive our parents.”

Adefaka said: “ALHAJI KOLA ANIMASAUN IS DEAD.He died this morning Thursday May 30, 2019.
Details later.”

Chief Kola Muslim Kolawole Animasaun, born 5 July 1939, was a Nigerian journalist, columnist and former Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Vanguard, (one of) Nigeria’s leading newspaper.

His book, From 1939 to the Vanguard of Modern Journalism, was launched at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Lagos on July 2012 and the occasion was attended by Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar represented, Former Lagos State Governor Chief Bola Tinubu, and Ormer Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Prince Bola Ajibola (DAN), etc.

“He is one of our fathers in Islam and Journalism before he breathed his last this morning. If you can imagine the number of Muslims in your Newsroom and the challenges they face as at today, you can imagine the number when the likes of Alhaji Animasaun were active on the field. Now, you can imagine the battle they could have faced to give a voice to the Deen-ul-Haqq. May Allah overlook his transgressions and be pleased with his soul. Amin,” a comment said.
