Kano declares Friday Islamic new year holiday

Kano State Government has declared Friday, the 1st of Muharram, 1439A.H. which is equivalent to the 22nd of September, 2017 as public holiday to mark the New Islamic Year.

This is contained in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information, Youth and Culture, Malam Muhammad Garba, which was issued to newsmen in Kano.

The Islamic New Year, which is first month in the lunar Islamic calendar, coincides with activities marking the nation’s 57th anniversary celebration.

According to the statement, the Acting Governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar urges people in the state to use the auspicious period to fervently pray for the unity, peace and stability of the nation.

He also called on the Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to join hands with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari in its determination to build a peaceful and harmonious country.‎

The statement further indicates that while congratulating the people for witnessing the New Islamic Year, the Acting Governor prays for peace and development of the country and assured of government’s determination to improving the lots of the people in the state.
