Lagos announces immortalization of Muritala Animashaun, to name school after him

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has announced the intention of his government to name one of the public school in the state after late Islamic cleric and broadcaster, Alhaji Muritala Ayodeji Ajadi Animashaun, who died 50 years ago.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made this announcement through his Special Adviser on Religious Matters, Alhaji Ahmad Jebe who represented him at the 50th anniversary of the death of the late broadcaster nicknamed “Enia biiyin nimi” (meaning, I am but human like you) taken from the word he usually used in rounding up his Khutubah as Imam.

The governor however said the Murtala Animashaun family will be called upon when he will have perfected arrangement for immortalization of the cleric.

At the 50th fidau held at Admiralty Road, Lekki, Lagos on Sunday November 17, 2019 and chaired by former Inspector General of Police Musiliu Smith, were prominent Nigerians including former Military Governors Raji Rasaki (Lagos), Bode George (Old Ondo), Tunji Olurin (Old Oyo), former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Senator representing Lagos East, Gbenga Ashafa, retired DIG Olusegun Kassim, former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mr. Adesola Macaulay, former DG, NIDB, Mr. Gbodebo Dallas, former Commander, Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, Major General Abdullahi Adekunle Martin’s, and Abbey Ibrahim among others.

Late Murtala Animashaun was father of late Ganiyu Kayode Animashaun, fondly called GK, and grandfather of former Minister of Communications, Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (Rtd).
