Kaduna After initial hiccups of failing electronic voting machines and late arrival of officials, local government elections in Kaduna went on smoothly as voters were accredited in record time and cast their votes.

Governor Nasir El Rufai, who voted at Angwan Sarkin Polling Station, expressed satisfaction with the voting, saying what was more important was the transparency of the process and not the victory of his party, the All Progressives Congress.

El-Rufai, who was accredited and voted at about 1:09 pm, said due to security reports, election could not hold in two local council, Kaura and Jaba.

Speaking shortly after casting his vote, the governor said although there were initial hiccups with electronic voting machines, the problems were resolved and votes were going on smoothly.

According to a media report, a visit to some polling stations in Narayi and Barnawà showed that electoral officials were late as voters waited in long queues.

There were no report of violence in any part of the state even as voters hailed the introduction of electronic voting.
