Nigeria’s foremost activist lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Festus Keyamo, on Friday reportedly said he will unbundle the Supreme Court if appointed the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice.

He was reported to have said this during his screening by the Nigerian Senate as ministerial nominee of President Muhammadu Buhari in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly, Abuja.

” I do not know why it is impossible to have regional supreme courts where matters such as contracts , assault and the rest will be entertained and they end there. The supreme court in Abuja will only entertain constitutional matters,” Keyamo said.

Reacting to him, Dispora Nigerian (America), Abass Adetunji said: “Thank you for your zeal geared towards reforming the judiciary. Some two days ago, I laughed when Senator Dayo Adeyeye said senators in the US earned as high as 4.8 million dollars annually as running allowances.

“My question is why do we refer to the US in hypocricy? We borrowed the presidential system of government there and even when we cannot take everything hook , line and sinker, I know there are state supreme courts in the USA! So, why have we failed to imbibe this method? The USA Central Supreme Court has nine members usually selected on ideological basis, and it hears only constitutional issues. Why do we need a Keyamo to point this out as part of his reform process?

H”ow many AGFNs have we had in this land? Did they not know this?” Adetunji asked in a reaction posted on his Facebook wall Saturday morning.

Effort by The DEFENDER to get Mr. Keyamo, who is Spokesman, Muhammadu Buhari Presidential Campaign Council (MBPCC) during the 2019 electioneering exercise, to throw more light on why and how he would do the Supreme Court unbundling and by extension carry out the much desired law reforms in the country was yet to be successful as at the time of filing this report.

However, attempt by controversial Senator of Kogi West, Dino Melaye, to carry his latest jokes in the legislature to Keyamo was stopped as Senate President Ahmed Lawan ruled out against him.

File: Dino Melaye in dramatic outing as he was arraigned on wheel stretcher in court over one of his many alleged crimes against Kogi State.

Melaye, a lawmaker, with many outstanding crises hung on his neck, had asked the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Festus Keyamo, to recite the second stanza of the National Anthem.

Melaye asked the question when Keyamo was being screened for ministerial position by the Senate.

“I know you to be intellectually mobile, I want you to recite the second stanza of the national anthem,” he said.
