“Yoruba have always been the race of the progressives and, if we must support anything political as we move on in life, we cannot be far away from supporting the progressives. A situation where Afenifere who claim to represent Yoruba race dumped at election the progressives which have his own as Vice President and embraced the conservative that have no hope for them and their lovely country Nigeria cannot honestly speaking be allowed to continue as representatives of Yoruba Nation.”
A new Yoruba group designed to galvanise the entire Yoruba people of Nigeria to true patriotism is set to emerge.
The group named Yoruba Renaissance Movement (YRM) is a reactionary effort of some concerned citizens of Nigeria from the South West of the country who believe that socio-cultural Yoruba organisation, Afenifere, deviating from the part progressives for Nigerian national interest would be disastrous should something fast not happen correcting the unfortunate situation.
According to coordinator of the new group, Mr. Adedeji Tajudeen Bakare, who spoke to The DEFENDER Saturday night, people who claim to representing the Yoruba people of Nigeria as Afenifere are in actual fact representing their own personal pockets and stomachs.
“Now they are clearly seen as people working with unpatriotic politicians, who have no interest of Nigeria at hearts and these Afenifere leaders such the over 90-year-old among them and even their seeming young spokesman now have nothing they do than collect money from those unpatriotic politicians for their own good alone and fix their children in position, that’s all! Where then is the interest of Yoruba and where is do they place the overriding national interest in all of these?” Bakare asked.
However, YRM is coming up to take care of the missing gap, he said, noting that Yoruba race is not supposed to be anti-Nigeria and that the new group, with its capacity to bring the Yoruba people together through its contacts and direct interrelations, want to prove this point as according to him, “Yoruba have always been the race of the progressives and, if we must support anything political as we move on in life, we cannot be far away from supporting the progressives. Bakare said: “The Yoruba Nation has been left too long in the hands of socio-cultural prenuers who feed large under the guise of representing the Yoruba Nation. They are the biggest problems we have as an ethnic nationality.
The perpetual betrayal of the Oodua Descendants in the affairs of Nigeria can no longer be tolerated. We shall not sit back and watch any group of selfish greedy traitors destroy our values for a pot of porridge.
“This is the time to take the Yoruba Nation from the grips of ‘Afenifere’,” he said.
