Ogun Police arrests 72-year-old man, others over frauds

The Ogun State Police Command says that it has arrested some fraudsters including a 72-year-old man.

The arrest, according to a statement by spokesman of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER, was made on the 11th of January 2019.

According to Oyeyemi, the 72-year-old, Abiodun Bamgbopa, and seven others who are 419 syndicate, had defrauded many unsuspecting members of the public of their hard earned money before they were arrested.

Bamgbopa and other suspects namely; Olashile Raheem, 35, Nureni Raheem, 32, Raphael Joseph,24, Ganiu Olawale 24, Adenubi Samiu 25, Mustapha Lukman 39 and, Raimi Ramoni 42, were arrested following an information from a member of the public who reported that some men just arrived the town and that their movement was suspicious.

“Upon the information, the DPO Ago Iwoye Division CSP Ade Adedoyin directed his detectives to be on the trail of the said men and technically profile and investigate them. The detectives succeeded in trailing them to their shrine where they were swindling their unsuspecting victims whom they were deceiving of rendering one spiritual help or the other for consequent upon which many have been made to fraudulently part with millions of naira.

“The suspects were apprehended and taken to Ago iwoye divisional headquarters where they were interrogated and confessed to be fraudsters. They confessed capitalising on the gullibility of their victims to dupe them.

“Meanwhile, the commissioner of police CP Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered a thorough investigation into the activities of the syndicate and charge them to a Court of competent jurisdiction as soon as the investigation is completed.

“He equally advised members of the public to bewared of the antics of fraudsters pretending to be Spiritualists,” the Police statement according to DSP Oyeyemi said.
