Ogun Police nabs 3 fake soldiers, as suspect tells how he stole Army uniform

In furtherance to its effort at ridding the Gateway State of Ogun of criminal activities, the State Police Command says it has arrested three men suspectedly parading themselves as soldiers when they are in actual fact not.

They are Abayomi Amon Akanji, male, Adebayo Rasheed Oladimeji, male, and Lawal Musa Akinmoye also a male said to have been terrorizing residents in Ogun State communities of Adatan, Bode Olude and others under pretence of being personnel of Nigerian Army.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER on Thursday, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), stated that the fake soldiers were arrested at the Adatan area of Abeokuta, the state capital, noting that their activities were at period of fuel crisis when, according to him, they dressed up in full Army uniform and used that to harass people at various filling stations.

Luck however ran against them on the 17th April when the DPO Adatan Division CSP Olajide Joshua led his men on routine patrol and accosted the first suspect Abayomi Amos Akanji in full military camouflage uniform without a name tag.

The statement said, “His appearance looked suspicious and that prompt the policemen to put some questions to him in order to ascertain his authenticity, but he was unable to give good and satisfactory account of himself as a soldier. He was promptly arrested and taken to the station. On interrogation, he confessed being a fake soldier and that he stole the uniform in an army barrack where he visits frequently.”

He further named his other accomplices who had been parading themselves as soldiers which include Adebayo Rasheed and Lawal Musa. They were both arrested on the 24th of April 2018.

Recovered from them are; one full army camouflage uniform, Nigeria Army folder, Army face cap and vests.

Meanwhile the Commissioner of Police CP Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
