The Osolo of Isolo, Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Edward Adejoyegbe Adewole, Oshalade II, has joined his voice to the calls seeking constitutional role for traditional rulers in the country.

Oba Adewole, who reigns in Isolo, a kingdom under Akure South Local Government Area, where the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, is paramount ruler, made this call in an interview with The DEFENDER at his Palace in Isolo, Akure recently.

He said ensuring constitutional role for traditional rules has to be done by lawmakers and that if they actually know the importance of traditional institution to achieving a peaceful, united society free of insecurity, they should have made a constitution that enlist the role of traditional rulers.

“Well, I will only say a little about that because, ensuring constitutional role for traditional rulers has to be done by our lawmakers.

“If our lawmakers know the importance of traditional institution, they should have made a constitution that will enlist the role of the traditional rulers.

“Those traditional rulers calling for them to be empowered with constitutional role are right because, for them to act effectively, it has to be backed by the constitution.

“So, I will urge our lawmakers and executive to consider putting forward a bill towards making the constitutional role for traditional rulers a reality,” he said.
