Wednesday night of 30 January 2019 was the time slated for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Dr. Peter Obi, respectively, at The CANDIDATES in Abuja.

It will be recalled that All Progressives Congress (APC)’s candidate and running mate, President Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo, had had their time one of the earlier dates, during which though both were made to pass the rigorous-nature interview style of Ahmed Kadaria, a journalist and anchor, Daria Media, in the interview spearheaded by Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), which is supposed to be television station of government that Buhari heads.

Of note was the celebration from opposition camp that Buhari and Osinbajo did not have a good outing but more popular analysis and unbiased judgement said they did well but looked ahead to having their own (PDP) candidates before they passed final judgement.

Wednesday night was the day much expected and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential hopefuls, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi were on the same hot seat that 30th of January, which was the last edition of “The CANDIDATES” which sees presidential candidates defend their strategies ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

The defiant interviewer, Ahmed Kadaria was in her usual pose questioning each strategy as Nigerians watched with keen interest for obvious reasons. Atiku and his running mate Obi are the major contenders for the seat of the presidency.

Surprisingly, supporters of Atiku, brought to the hall who include the Senate President Bukola Saraki, National Chairman of PDP Uche Secondus, Senator Ben Bruce, Senator Dino Melaye, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, did a lot of disruptions to the session but Kadaria insisted, “You are on live programme on television and whether you shout or not, I will still ask my questions”.

To this end, the fiery journalist, who has handled VIP interview on Channels Television and this time on NTA in collaboration with TVC and other television stations in the country, viewed also on the internet and Youtube worldwide, Kadaria, came under attacks by the PDP leaders present for allegedly asking tough questions to the hopefuls compared to the incumbent president.

They even went to the extent of blackmailing the same lady who put APC’s President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo on same hot seat and which these PDP leaders including Saraki had earlier praised Kadaria for. They said she was talking for APC and, trust the fair-in-complexion media proprietor, she refused to be touched by the blackmail as she let them know they are in the eyes of the global and they were being watched live on television.

Away from the venue, some Nigerians took to the Twitter to react.

Some attacked the interview:

“I don’t know what @KadariaAhmed is doing with the program. It is looking like an inquest or a trial. I am interosculating the process here with the previous ones. I believe GMB’s was a more friendly chat for obvious reasons. #NgTheCandidates pic.twitter.com/023CtlDMs7

Great Oracle@AbdulMahmud01

Kadaria is a lightweight, over-hyped journalist who has no knowledge of policy or interrogation skill. Her engagement with Atiku/Obi shows tonight.

Sandra Ezekwesili ✔@SEzekwesili

Where was this energy that Kadaria is bringing with @MBuhari and @ProfOsinbajo though? #NgTheCandidates

FAVOUR ONYEOZIRI (GCFR)@Rouvafe

Atiku and Obi exceeded my expectations tonight, especially Atiku. I personally didn’t even know he was this sound.

As for Peter Obi, mans brought India, Rwanda & S.A into his analogies today since APCists don’t want us to be as great as China. #NgTheCandidates #AtikuObi2019

Onye Nkuzi@cchukudebelu

Nah, I don’t like the combative posture of the interviewer, but Atiku and Obi are holding up well. How many jobs has Buhari created in Katsina State & how much impact has Buhari had on Katsina? #NgTheCandidates

Chinedu Abili-Mordi@freakiChinedu

The Money to run the Economy according to @PeterObi will actually be raised by cutting the amount of Money that Government has to raise by itself to fast track development!

very deep mindset and a smart way of thinking!

And he has actually done it before!#NGTheCandidates

Adetutu Balogun@Tutsy22

Atiku: When you reduce Coporate tax, it creates incentives to investors that then employ more people, the people that are employed get taxed.

Pardon my French: That was Fucking brilliant!!!

Ebube Favour@EbubeFavour4

Peter Obi made Kadaria realize she scored an own goal by saying that Atiku is the second highest employer of labour in Adamawa State after the state government smart as fuck #NGtheCandidates

However, some think otherwise:

Johannes Tobi W. ✔@Johannxs

Good call by Kadaria as Peter Obi reels out lies again, claiming that the APC promised a Naira to a Dollar. She says: let’s focus on what you’re doing. #NGTheCandidates

SoulJah@jeffphilips1

I banter a lot but this is not just banter, Peter Obi lies too much for a people’s leader. Someone he respects needs to look him in the face and tell him.

Atiku: I’m not hear to answer that
In his mind: this girl has passed her boundaries

Olawale Adetula ✔@thetoolsman

Peter Obi is like that uncle you used to look up to when you were young. Confident, successful and exposed. You know he adds the occasional white lie here and there just to make his stories sound better and you really don’t mind.

On the last note is that Atiku said Obasanjo has never found him guilty of any corruption related crime.

Details later….
